The Bachmann Gallery is now opening its doors to visitors from all over the world. The new main building of the “Vrijen Universiteit Amsterdam” houses a breathtaking collection of classical and modern works of art.

We are constantly working on expanding our collection.

Our collection is located on the top floor of the building. Unfortunately, we do not have any elevators.

Education & Teaching Content

Introduce your students to over 400 years of art history: from the oldest painting in our collection (1612) to new modern creations from the last decade. There is plenty to discover in our gallery. Guide your students through the great masters of our exhibition: Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Frida Carlo.

Students, with valid student IDs, get a 10% discount off the normal price of admission.

Teachers

Note to teachers: The traveling exhibitions on Marc Chagall and Leonardo DaVinci are no longer included in our program.

Impressionism

This month we will present Impressionist masterpieces from the second half of the 19th century in the Touring Exhibition Hall.

Motionless Life

A collection of classical and modern masterpieces awaits you in the Permanent Exhibition Hall. A collection of sculptures, paintings and photographs on the theme of “Motionless Life.” The exhibition also includes the oldest painting in our collection from 1612.

In the East Wing of our museum, we show one of the most modern and revolutionary art forms of the 20th and 21st century: photography.

Our Management

Dr. Ruben Van der Bjerg

Born in a small suburb of The Hague, Mr. Van der Bjerg has now lived in Amsterdam for over 15 years with his wife and two children. He has represented the Bachmann Foundation for over 20 years and was appointed head of the “Bachmann Gallery” project 12 months ago.

“I love art and see it as my job to share the beauty of this form of expression with as many people as possible,” the Director told us in an exclusive interview.
“As a family man, it is particularly important to me to make the Gallery accessible and appealing to children and families alike!”
